Solange Knowles mixes it up in Houston

"That Solange Knowles is a renaissance woman". Indeed she is!

Making her Houston debut as a mixer on the "one's and two's", Houston native, Solange Knowles and friends organized an event hosted and DJ'd by the talented songstress; "A Party". A lot of creativity went into the planning of the event. The password entry only, polaroid picture snapping, disco themed party was a success. Upon entry of The Flat, party goers were greeted by a young lady, dressed in the disco theme requesting the password; "rock.paper.scissors" - paper covered my rock. Once entering the intimate club, drinks were being poured, laughs were shared, hugs were traded, dancing filled the room - did I mention that drinks were being poured? And most importantly, GOOD music was being mixed. She took time out of her hip-hop/alternative/pop/r and b/soul mixing and went around snapping pictures of attendee's while socializing and dancing some (djing duties were taken over by producer Etrez of the Bama Boyz)

If you follow Solange on twitter, you are aware of the new hobby she picked up about two months ago during one of her New York visits. Getting rave reviews and cheers following has motivated her new passion. Her taking this on has been a shock to many, even her close pal, ?uest Love of The Roots made joke about her DJing:

SolangeKnowles: @questlove ha! yep. one day ill be good enough to DJ your family reunion :))

She recently addressed the critics and nay-sayers: 

"This Is actually REALLY fun! Which is what new found passions should feel like. I don't care if folk think I'm another "artist turned DJ"...I'm working really hard at it, respecting the art form and having f***ing FUN!."

Despite the party being rudely labeled by the non attendee, Will, manager of Houston artist, DeAndre Wright (who was in attendance as she and Solange have mutual friends), as a "#weirdofest" on twitter, (@Thatsuperstar man i know theres a lot of weirdos seeing how shes a weirdo now ... @sincerelyOla lol you went to that #weirdofest), the event was filled with people who wanted to share the unique experience and show support to the Houston R & B native. Also in attendance was Omarion, formally of B2K and Jas Prince. Honorable mentions of the night: IB3, Imani Rose, J Will, J Wells, Eddie, Joseph, Terrence, The Nice Guys and Mr 1of1.
