Beltaine 2010: A Pagan Odyssey in Oxford, CT is a wonderful festival

The festival "Beltaine 2010: A Pagan Odyssey" is positioned on Schreiber's farm in a beautifully wooded area on a small lake in Oxford, CT.  The area is lush with spring green and and located just down the road from Southford Falls State Park in Southbury, CT.  Driving along routes 188 and 67 to the festival site, you expect the Green Man to jump out at every turn.

This is a lovely area--to live in or for a festival.  By some miraculous inspiration, the local planning folks have achieved a residential area that even boasts a company or two well-hidden by the thick, wild foliage.  Somehow, the area never reveals to the casual eye that it is populated.  Beautiful houses and well kept restaurants, gas stations and country stores discreetly dot the landscape and enhance the rural drive.

This is an incredible festival.  It is stuffed full with workshops, rituals and entertainment.  There is too much to do at one time and all of it is good. Yesterday, I visited with a six-year old Arctic gray wolf named Atka (who looked like a gorgeous white wolf to me) and talked to a Queen.  Who knows what today will bring?

Atka, the wolf, was quite well behaved.  Atka is the youngest ambassador from the Wolf Conservation Center.  Atka delighted the crowd at her workshop by being quixotic and beautiful.  She looked so tame, something like a well trained Eskimo Spitz, but then--look again.  In her eyes was the beauty of the wild and unpredictable ready to spring into action at any moment.

With the controversy about the slaughter of wolves across our nation, Atka is a regal ambassador.  Who could think to kill one so beautiful? Why?

"Located in South Salem, NY, the Wolf Conservation Center (www.nywolf.org) exists to educate people about wolves and their valuable role in the environment, and to help protect their future in the wild. The WCC is home to four ambassador wolves that visitors can observe in spacious natural enclosures. We also have over 20 wolves as part of our participation in Species Survival Plans for critically endangered Mexican Gray Wolves and Red Wolves." (quoted from the website)

To learn more about the Wolf Conservation Center or to arrange a visit, please go to their website or email them at nywolf.org@gmail.com.

Later today, meet Queen Mama Donna Hennes as the coverage of this incredible Beltainne Odyssey in Connecticut continues.  All Hail queen Donna!   Prepare for meeting her hghness by visiting her website at www.TheQueenOfMyself.com.
