FRIDAY, JULY 10: CHICKEN WINGS
Profile America -- Friday, July 10th. A unique culinary contest gets underway today in Reno, Nevada -- the Great International Chicken Wing Society Cook-off. Some 50,000 people will gather around bars and restaurants in Reno through Sunday as they compete for the title of making the best chicken wings in the city. While the competition is not as formal, amateur chefs in backyards all over the nation will be firing up grills this summer to impress friends and relatives with their own specialties. On average, Americans eat more than 61 pounds of chicken each year. To keep up with this demand, U.S. farmers produce over 49 billion pounds of chickens annually. Georgia is the leading producer, followed by Arkansas and Alabama. Profile America is a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau, now preparing for the 2010 Census.
