DEMO 09 marks the first multidimensional conference experience to leverage Facebook's Live Feed to provide content, community and conversations to a worldwide audience
"In today's challenging economic climate, conferences like DEMO have to be creative and rethink the ways in which they operate to reach the broadest audience in order to have the greatest impact," said
Whether watching the stream online or as one of the 500 people attending the conference in Palm Desert, users updated their Facebook status directly from the DEMO 09 Live player and could also see and comment on status updates posted by friends and other Facebook users tuning in to the broadcast. Status updates posted on the Live Feed were published in the user's Facebook News Feed with a link tagged back to the DEMO 09 Live stream, so friends could click the tag and watch the stream while participating in the conversation. This activity led to a viral explosion in viewership around the world as interested friends clicked back into the DEMO broadcast after seeing comments left by friends who were already watching.
DEMO also encouraged participants to utilize other social media tools such as Twitter and blogs to engage and participate in the conference. During the two day event over 1,850 posts appeared on Twitter and blogs, resulting in an estimated 188,900 social media impressions generated during the two day conference.
This was the second conference that DEMO partnered with BitGravity, a DEMO 08 demonstrator and DEMOgod award winner, to provide high-quality streaming video of the conference. The combined power of BitGravity's BG Live(TM) highly-scalable flash-based video stream service and Facebook's Live Feed technology allowed the innovative companies selected to participate in DEMO 09 to launch their products to a world audience, something that was not possible in the past.
