The 2008 Florida Restaurant & Lodging Show To Be Held This Weekend

ORLANDO, Fla. (Map) - ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Starting this Friday, September 5, 2008 the table is set for a feast of insights, ideas, and opportunities at the 2008 Florida Restaurant & Lodging Show. The event that caters to the specific needs of the Southeast foodservice industry is THE place for thousands of industry professionals to demo, touch, taste, smell, compare, and source the latest in products and services necessary for running a successful business. This annual event will be held September 5-7 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Among dozens of stories, here some of the highlights:

-- The 2nd Annual Ferdinand Metz Foodservice Forum will feature industry experts handpicked by Master Chef and Head of the Culinary Institute of America for more than 20 years, Ferdinand Metz. Keynote speakers include Dick Rivera, President & CEO of Rubicon Enterprises;

George McKerrow, owner of Ted's Montana Grill; Michael Oshman, Executive Director of the Green Restaurant Association; and Steve Zipkoff of Zipkoff Solutions.

-- PMQ's Orlando Pizza Show returns to serve as the premier showcase for pizza related products and services. Highlights include The Annual US Pizza Team Trials Competition where dough spinning pizza acrobats will compete for a spot on the US Pizza Team to represent the nation's pizza industry in the World Pizza Championships in Salsomaggiore, Italy.

-- The Ultimate Barista Challenge brings together professional baristi to face challengers all preparing their signature espresso beverages for a panel of judges. The showdown will feature three flights of espresso frappe, espresso cocktails, and beautiful café latte art.

-- The Liquid Lounge invites attendees to a behind the scenes look at the beverage industry with special appearances from The Liquor Learning Laboratory, a 45-foot tour bus designed for beverage education, marketing, and promotions and awe inspiring flair bartenders demonstrating their speed, accuracy, and showmanship.

-- The Innovative New Product Gallery is the place to source new food, beverages, desserts, ingredients/condiments, equipment, environmental safety, technology, and solutions in the industry. Be among the voters by picking your favorites. On Sunday, the Best in Show, First Runner Up, and Second Runner Up will be named.

-- There will be several culinary competitions managed and organized by the American Culinary Federation (ACF)/Central Florida Chapter (CFC), The Culinary Competitions include the Jr. Member Florida State Championship Team Skills Competition; the Agriculture Alligator Signature Recipe Hot Food Competition; the Taste of Elegance Signature Recipe Competition, sponsored by The National Pork Board, The 10th Annual Culinary Super Challenge Team Competition; and The Pastry Competition, sponsored by The Culinary Source, Cacao Barry, and Carma.
