HARRISBURG, Pa. (Map) - Tpr. Kenton E. Iwaniec, of Lancaster, Killed in Crash

HARRISBURG, Pa., March 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell today offered his condolences to the family and friends of Tpr. Kenton E. Iwaniec, who died today following a crash last night in Chester County.

"Tpr. Iwaniec died just three months after graduating from the State Police Academy," Gov. Rendell said. "His death deprives us of a young man who had decided to dedicate his life to serving the citizens of Pennsylvania. Marjorie and I extend our deepest sympathies to the trooper's family."

Tpr. Iwaniec, 24, enlisted in the State Police on June 11 and graduated from the academy in Hershey on Dec. 21. He served with Troop J in the patrol unit at the Avondale Station in Chester County.

State Police said the Lancaster native had just completed an evening shift last night and was driving home in his personal vehicle when another vehicle crossed the center line of Rt. 41 in London Grove Township and crashed into Tpr. Iwaniec's vehicle. Tpr. Iwaniec was wearing a seat belt.

Iwaniec was transported by helicopter to Christiana Hospital where he died early today, State Police said. No one else was injured in the crash.
