This year, the free program will visit eight cities where the incidence of diabetes is prevalent. Divabetic - Makeover Your Diabetes takes diabetes education out of the clinical setting and puts it into a supportive community setting. To date, more than 2,000 people across the nation affected by diabetes have experienced this confidence-building program inspired by the late Luther Vandross.

"Because women play a critical role in driving change in their homes and communities they can help themselves and others to adopt healthier lifestyles," said Dr. Soraly Servera, Medical Scientific Director at Novo Nordisk. "As the prevalence of diabetes continues to rise, so does the need to inspire better care."

The event features makeovers from celebrity hair, makeup and fashion professionals, alongside coaching from Certified Diabetes Educators (CDEs) in a casual and personal format that focuses on practical life changes in key diabetes care areas:

Twist & Shout - Tips for integrating exercise into daily life, beyond strict gym regimens Denial's Not My Style - Approaches to embracing numbers (A1c, BMI) & diabetes terms Grab Green & Go - Ideas to make healthy choices for better -- not perfect -- eating Glam More Fear Less - Ways to impact attitudes about health with a positive self image Sweet Inspirations - Life-coaching, goal-setting & affirmations designed for the long run Tunnel of Love - Conversations about the caregiver roles, intimacy issues associated with diabetes, the impact of diabetes on interpersonal relationships and gestational diabetes

"Women who come to these events often share their personal struggles with diabetes and tell me they feel encouraged by the intimate conversations with diabetes educators and other women affected by diabetes at our event," said Max Szadek, caregiver and personal assistant to the late Luther Vandross and founder of DIVABETIC. "Every individual who leaves an event not only looking beautiful but feeling more confident about her diabetes care is a testament to the impact of Novo Nordisk Presents: Divabetic - Makeover Your Diabetes in building a community for people living with this challenging disease and driving them to make changes in their lives."

Nearly 21 million Americans have diabetes and 800,000 - or one in eight - of them live in New York City. Alarmingly, nearly 70 percent of all people diagnosed with diabetes in New York State are in poor control of their disease(1) -- putting themselves at risk of serious complications including blindness, cardiovascular disease and amputation.

Following the New York event, Novo Nordisk Presents: Divabetic-Makeover Your Diabetes will be offered in cities including:

Philadelphia, PA March 8 Atlanta, GA April 12 Los Angeles, CA June 28 Washington, DC September 27 Cleveland, OH October 11 New Orleans, LA November 8
