AT&T Presents Inaugural Calendar To Commemorate African-American History

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Map) - MEMPHIS, Tenn., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) announced today plans to launch the first Tennessee African-American History calendar, for 2009, and is calling for nominations of African-Americans from the state of Tennessee to be featured in the calendar.

The calendar will honor individuals, living and deceased, from a variety of areas, such as civil rights, journalism, education, health care, entertainment, politics, sports, law or any other area in which a person has contributed to the greater good.

"Tennessee has such a rich and varied cultural tapestry," said Gregg Morton, president of AT&T Tennessee. "We decided to launch this calendar as a tool for educators who want to expose their classes to the contributions that African-Americans have made to our state. These individuals may not make it into a classroom textbook but have nevertheless played a vital role in making our state -- and our country -- the great place that it is. We chose a calendar format because these contributions are significant enough to be celebrated year-round."

AT&T has plans to provide a printed version of the calendar, as well as an online version, that will provide educators with samples of interactive projects, which will entertain and educate students about the contributions these individuals have made to the quality of life enjoyed by Tennesseans.

Individual and group nominations can include Tennesseans from all walks of life who have made a contribution to their communities. Nominations must be received by March 21, 2008, to be considered. The 12 honorees selected by an independent panel of civic leaders will be unveiled later this year at a ceremony in Memphis.
