Hermit Falls is accessible from the same trailhead as Sturtevant Falls. Follow the First Water Trail as it winds down into Santa Anita Canyon. When it reaches Robert's Camp take a right in the opposite direction of Sturtevant Falls. The walk East through Robert's Camp is peaceful and Hermit Falls is only a short distance away. The entire hike will take 2.5-miles. The trail passes alongside a babbling creek, crossing it at a few points. The trail passes several artificial waterfalls from man-made dams built some time ago in an attempt to tame the creek.
In the summer, the water above Hermit's falls makes a great swimming hole. There are low ledges to jump from and flat stone perfect for drying in the sun. Due to the spring runoff, passage this time of year may require rubber boots or a pair of sandals. While many falls diminish in the summer months, this trail will remain pleasant in July and August. Visit the Hermit as part of your trip to Sturtevant or save it for summer when a nice shady hike and a cool dip in the creek is what you're looking for.
To get the the trailhead, follow these directions to Sturtevant Falls.
