A serial killer mutilates his victims, leaving the bodies at various geocaching sites with obscure religious references. When the killer targets Eve Andreakos, a woman he holds responsible for his wife’s death, she barely escapes with her life. Eve flees to Rock Harbor with 2 year old Keri. Eve has just begun to relax when she and her friend Bree stumble on a mutilated body at a geocaching site. Eve knows the killer has found her again. Events spiral out of control when her ex-husband shows up and her long lost sister appears. Before it’s all over, Eve will need to reach inside and find the strength to fight back before the killer destroys everything she loves.

Folks, I tell you Abomination is a knuckle-whiter. I wonder if reading great suspense novels counts toward your cardio? Need to ask the fitness examiner.

Colleen was so gracious to allow me to post the summary of her novel Abomination as well as her photograph. In addition, she responded to some questions I had relating geocaching to her writing. My questions are in the purple, Colleen's answers are in the black.

How did you first hear about geocaching?

I was at my daughter's in Arizona and read an article in geocaching. We authors are a strange bunch. My mind immediately began to think "what if?" and Gideon's killing spree began to come into focus. It was such an intriguing idea, I knew I had to write it.

Were you doing it for recreation before you came up with the idea of Abomination or did the idea come first and the sport come later?

The idea came first, but we LOVE geocaching now. We were already using a GPS in our car, so I bought my husband one for the sport, and we were hooked. The first cache we found was in a graveyard. Somehow that seems appropriate now!

How did you research the book?

I emailed Gary and Donna Scramling in Michigan. Gary was the president of the Michigan geocachers group and he and Donna were a wealth of information. He set up a special cache series in honor of the book too. Every time I had a question, he came right back with the answer. I also had to research serial killers--NOT such a fun topic! I also had to research ballet after stumbling onto the whole nexus of the plot.

What was the best cache you found?

We found one that had a new coin in it. Geocachers are big coin collectors. Some even have coins made up that are their trademark coins. Thomas Nelson [publishing house] had some special coins made up for Abomination that are just breathtaking. Gary arranged for their creation. When you find a coin in a cache, it's a big day!

What was the weirdest cache you found or the most disappointing?

There was one hidden in a tree in the cemetery behind our house, and all it had inside was a rolled up piece of paper to sign that we'd found it. And it was HARD to find. A lot of effort too!

Do you still geocache or did your novel give you the willies?

We still go! But I give a quick look around for Gideon!

And anything else you might find interesting about the connection between geocaching and your novel.

In the novel Gideon left the bodies as the cache, but once they were found, the tradition of geocaching ended. When you take something from a cache, you're supposed to leave something. The cops didn't leave anything in place of the bodies. . . When I first came up with the idea, I'd thought to bury the bodies, but that's not part of the geocaching tradition either. The caches are not to be buried. We want no impact on the environment.

Colleen has a new book out -  Cry in the NightHer new novel is set in Michigan's Upper Peninsula as well and involves more outdoor recreation activities sprinkled with dead bodies.

Plan on getting absolutely nothing done when you pick up one of Coble's books. They are hard to put down, and if you do put it down, you can't get the story out of your head.

Look forward to an article on GPS devices. Colleen will share which one she likes best!
