As the sun sets this Saturday, the lights will come on over the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium as Zoofari comes to life.  This annual event is the Columbus Zoo's premier fund-raiser and a chance to experience the zoo in an adults-only setting.

More than 100 of Columbus's favorite bars and restaurants will be on hand serving their signature drinks and portions of their best foods to Zoofari guests.  Live music will provide the background to enjoy the zoo sans strollers. Performers at Zoofari include The Menus, Gemini, Dueling Pianos from the Big Bang Bar, Fourth Avenue, and more.

Tickets for Zoofari are on sale now at the Columbus Zoo's website.  Tickets purchased on-line cost $115, while admission at the door will cost $150.  This price includes admission to Zoofari and three drink tickets.  Special VIP tickets, at $200 each, include valet parking at the event, special access to VIP areas during the night, and admission to a pre-party at the new Polar Frontier exhibit.

Zoofari is a major fundraiser for the Columbus Zoo.  Proceeds from this event help fund the zoo's conservation and education programs.  Come enjoy yourself and know that you are doing some good to help protect wildlife and excite the next generation of animal lovers.

I have concerns about zoos, with large animals in small enclosures. I hope this one is a good one.

Pauline, I definitely have the same concerns about zoos that you do. My heart went out to some of the animals at the Philly Zoo. But in Columbus, we have the #1 zoo in the nation, and the animals definitely have ample space. It's one of the few zoos in the nation that isn't landlocked, so when they expand (like with the Polar Frontier -- see Andrew's other articles) or renovate, the animals are always the top priority. The grizzly bears and polar bears at Polar Frontier even have pools of fish to fish in now!
