A climbing helmet is a piece of safety equipment that can protect a climber from falling debris from above. Made from lightweight plastic, a helmet should be able to protect the head while allowing freedom of movement, vision, and not be uncomfortable when climbing. It should fit snugly and securely on the head. The helmet should not be tilted back, exposing the forehead. Helmets sometimes have special features, such as ventilation holes or clips for securing a headlamp.
Visit the local climbing shop when buying a helmet. By trying a variety of helmets on at the same time, you can get a better idea as to what fits best and also meets your needs. Ask the sales staff for assistance when making a purchase.
