It's a no-brainer that people are self-conscious about their looks, especially with women. Whether we want to believe it or not, what we look like is a huge part of our self-esteem. For those who can just go "as-is" and not care about what they look like, more power to you. However, if you feel like you have to wear makeup even when you work out, you may want to consider ditching the makeup before you work out.
If you wear makeup and are actually working out, the sweat that gets mixed with the makeup will attract bacteria that will clog your pores and cause blemishes, blackheads and acne. If you develop these skin issues, you may in fact be more inclined to slather on more makeup to cover it all up, which just keeps adding to the problem. This may be an obvious statement, however it is a sentiment that far too many people overlook.
If you are working out after going to work, simply remove your makeup before working up a sweat. Nothing will look worse than mascara running down your face or your eyeshadow caking on your eyelids.
If you must wear makeup while working out, try going for pure mineral makeup since it won't clog your pores. In pure mineral makeup, there are no oils or talc, and most are waterproof. Speaking of waterproof, if your eyelashes must have mascara on them, go with waterproof mascara.
Last but not least, ditch the lipstick. Replace the lipstick with a light lip gloss, but nothing too shiny. Some lipsticks can actually dry your lips out even more, especially if you are working out outdoors, and in the San Francisco Bay Area where escaping colder weather is a little tougher on most days.
Even if you opt for pure mineral makeup and waterproof makeup, be sure to wash your face after working out. It's simply good hygiene to wash up after working out anyway, but especially if you wear makeup.
You don't always need to wear makeup to look good. Just the fact that you are working out should be enough of a confidence boost that some people can truly admire, makeup or no makeup.
