This past weekend April 9-11th, approximately forty snow sporty women descended on Chamonix for an "exchange of ideas" in the Alps. WOW Chamonix was touted as a place for women who search for adventures in the mountains to come together and share their knowledge face to face and inspire new alpine escapades.
WOW's (women of winter/wind/wheels/wandering/water) mission? Founder Jo Guest is eager to facilitate the meeting of like minded women sharing a common passion in hopes of striving to attain their full potential. Her first event, WOW New Zealand, took place at Mount Olympus and was inspired by the "drive and camaraderie" she experienced while riding all around the world. Boosted by WOW New Zealand's success, Jo decided to harness the growing momentum and switched hemispheres with the help of Chamonix local Annabel Wilson. Voila! WOW Chamonix was born.
Women from the U.K. as well as neighboring ski areas and towns spent three days attending ski and snowboard clinics, testing gear, massage and spa events, yoga, networking events, screenings of all women ski and snowboard films, snow barbeques and lots of fun and dancing at the WOW party all in the name of inspiration and charity.
In addition to a meeting of the feminine mountain goddess minds, the event raised just over one thousand Euro for WOW's two chosen charities, The Breast Cancer Campaign and the Alpine Initiative. We can only wait and see where WOW will WOW us next.
