The Senators welcome Sidney Crosby, and the Pittsburgh Penguins onto the Scotiabank Place ice tonight (7:30pm ET; TSN 2 TV; Team 1200 Radio; Tickets still available). They do so off the heels of a hard fought win over Toronto on Tuesday night, and will look to record back-to-back wins for the first time since October 17th.
They face a tough test in doing so, as the defending Stanley Cup Champions come into tonight's game seven points ahead of the Senators, in first place in the Eastern Conference standings, and having won two straight.
The Senators will have to find a way to stop a very hot, and always potent Pittsburgh offense. In their last two games alone, Sidney Crosby, and Evgeni Malkin have combined for seven points. The usual answer to such a problem would be to place shutdown defenders on them all night, but even that is not a possibility, as the Sens' best defensive player, Anton Volchenkov is still out of the lineup with an elbow injury.
On the other side of the injury report, Sergei Gonchar, and Maxime Talbot will both be making their return to the Penguins' lineup tonight after stints on the injured list.
Notes: As reported earlier, Alex Kovalev will play tonight, but will leave the team for personal reasons following the game.
