Southpaw's organic cafe

Southpaw organic café opened about 7 months ago and has a steadily growing business. The walls are lined with pictures of boxers. A counter and a few tables make up the small café featuring smoothies, salads and sandwiches. On my first visit, the counter was strewn with ‘muscle magazines’ and with the classic rock station in the background it had a ‘muscle-head’ vibe. The next visit was during lunch and the place was filled with everything from two older ladies, a mom, grandma and two kids, an office worker seeking a break and a smoothie, and a couple of white shirt and tie clad businessmen.

Reza Anvarian, the owner, was formerly a professional boxer in the light weight class of 152-160 pounds. When asked what made him get into the restaurant business, he responded “After deciding to retire from boxing, restaurant work was the only other thing I knew how to do.” Reza said he had to eat ‘clean’ to keep in his weight class. He decided to open up an organic café featuring some of his favorite foods and foods that were ‘clean’ and good for you too. He has a couple of his best buddies working with him so work is a joy not just a job.

The menu features smoothies sweetened with Agave Nectar with names like ‘Persian Thunder’ and ‘Brianna’. Additives include protein, weight loss, energy, creatine and Detox. The rest of the menu is broken up into boxing terms ‘round one’ featuring fruit salads and granola, ‘round two’ with eight salads on the list and ‘round three’ with seven healthy sandwiches. All the ingredients are organic and healthy.

Located in Preston Center right next to a couple of work out centers, Southpaw’s organic café is popular with the local work out crowd, trainers and even the neighborhood naturopath doctor, Dr. Sherri Lewis. Open from 7am-8pm Monday-Thursday and closing at 7pm on Fridays and Saturday from 9am-4pm and closed on Sunday. Just off Douglas Avenue at 6009 Berkshire lane in Dallas, with easy in and out parking you can also reach them by phone at 214-987-0351. To-go orders are welcome.

The food is amazing! I end up eating there 4-5 times a week. It's a friendly group and the portion vs price is solidly in your favor. Delicious!
