You have spoken. By a small margin, LifeGivers garnered more votes by the closing date than the other four suggested books and will be the focus of our upcoming open adoption book tour.
For our first cross-triad book tour, we focused on the adoptee viewpoint with The Primal Wound. For this second tour, we will explore the birth parent perspective by reading and discussing James Gritter's third book. Other books authored by him are Adoption Without Fear and The Spirit of Open Adoption.
How does the book tour work?
- Sign up for the tour by May 7. Sooner is better as the tour is expected to fill. EVERYONE wanting to explore the mosaic that is adoption is invited to join.
- Get the book. Buy it, borrow it, or get it from the library soon. Begin reading.
- Come up with up 1 or 2 discussion questions (not Yes-or-No), which are due to me by June 1.
- By June 5, you'll receive a list of questions that other participants have posed. From this list you will choose any three to answer on your own blog (there is an Adoption Book Tour site for participants who don't have a blog to post on). You do not have to have a blog to participate.
- Have your answers to your chosen questions ready to post by June 13. The tour takes place over three days -- June 15, 16, and 17 with one-third of participants posting each day. I will do my best to accommodate date requests -- just let me know.
- On the tour days, links to participants' answers will be on the Examiner page. You can then read and comment on the answers from other people who have read and are discussing LifeGivers. The tour is designed so that each person reads and comments respectfully on the thoughts of other participants.
The tour is able to accommodate up to 42 readers, so sign up soon because the last one filled quickly.
It is my hope and request that everyone who participates in this Book Tour come with equal parts openness to understand other viewpoints and eagerness to share one's own.
