Monday, the first of two advertising platforms, involving Twitter, was announced. It’s called Tweetup. Tweetup was created to offer advertisers a way to promote their brands by purchasing keywords. Advertisers will have an opportunity to bid in order to raise their tweets to the top of search results. Tweetup has created partnerships with Klout, Twidroid, Twitterfeed, Seesmic, Answers.com, Business Insider, and Popurls.
The timing of Tweetup’s announcement eclipsed the much-anticipated press release from Twitter, regarding their advertising revenue model, which many expected to be announced during SXSW. Instead, the micro-blogging giant chose to unveil their version, called Promoted Tweets, at their first conference for developers called Chirp, this week. Twitter’s version is very similar to Tweetups, however, users will see ads in search results hosted on Twitter’s site, in addition to third-party clients like TweetDeck, Twhirl, TwitterBerry, and Tweetie, which were all acquired by Twitter within the last few weeks.
