At this point, the men don't care about your PhD.
I've seen a lot of online dating profiles. More than I care to remember, actually!
There are a lot of things that people do wrong with their photos. For example:
- Only group photos
- Photos with people blurred or blacked out
- Photos with disembodied arms/hands
- Bad Photoshopping
- Photos with car/gun
- Shirtless photos (Guys, seriously - put the shirt back on.)
- Bathroom mirror photos
- Webcam photos
- Poorly done, Myspace-style self-portraits
But my favorite is the "CHECK OUT MY CLEAVAGE!" picture.
Ladies, I need to tell you something and you have to listen.
If you show your cleavage in more than one photo, you are sending a very clear message to the men on your online dating site. It does not matter what your profile says. All the men are going to see are "the girls" and they are going to react with the wrong head, if you know what I mean.
(Guys, I know there are some gentlemen left in the world. I work with you every day! I'm talking about the seedier half of your gender.)
So ladies, if you're reading your inbox and seeing men who don't mention a word about your profile or who just seem pervvy, know that you attracted them with your profile pictures.
Dave Chappelle really said it best: if you don't do the job, don't wear the uniform. Video is not safe for work due to some vulgar and sexual language.

That is the stone cold truth!
Victim-blaming much?
@ May - Hardly the case. I had a friend in college who was raped for doing no more than showing up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not excusing the guys for being pigs in this case either. I'm just saying that there are women out there who make it EASIER for men to be pigs.
Case in point - had a VERY sweet client who came to me complaining that guys emailed her wanting a f-buddy relationship or just a one night stand. Some just emailed to say inappropriate things to her. I checked out her profile and sure enough, her cleavage was all over the place. We changed her photos to more modest ones and suddenly the caliber of men emailing her changed entirely. She's happily attached now to a wonderful man.
What you call victim-blaming I call potential victim informing. Knowing is half the battle! :)
I think you forgot, the "drink in the hand in most or all of your profile pics." This gives me the impression that person is not sober much of the time.
