Meet the newest member of the One Tree Hill family

The town of Tree Hill has a new sibling coming home and she's got a suitcase of issues arriving with her. “I come back with some life problems”, said Shantel Van Santen who's playing the role of Quinn James on the upcoming seventh season of One Tree Hill. She recently discussed her character with Denise Gideon in an exclusive interview on the One Tree Hill podcast.

Quinn will be the second member of Haley's(Bethany Joy Gaelotti) sister One Tree Hill viewers will have gotten the chance to meet, and if you thought the other one was full of drama, you may want to reevaluate her when you meet Quinn; a photographer returning home with a desire to be near her family in order to fix her life. As Van Santen told Gideon, Quinn has got plenty of unanswered questions in her life. “She's definitely struggling, she got married very young...she's at a crossroads in her life where there's all these questions that arise like is my life going in the right direction? Is this what I want? Am I happy ? She needs her sister”, said Van Santen.

But don't be so quick to think that this new character is nothing but problems, as Van Santen discussed to Gideon, Quinn will be contributing positively to the Tree Hill family as well. “She's traveled and found her passion and been fortunate enough to have these amazing experiences that she'll share with the audience and with her sister as well”. 

Van Santen also discussed how Haley won't be the only Tree Hill character Quinn shares a storyline with. “She'll have some opportunities to work with Brooke(Sophia Bush) as well and her new clothing line so it's a good transition for her to come home and feel inspired again and to work and be around her family and where she grew up”, said Van Santen.

Van Santen who comes from a background of only films and no television said she found the role of Quinn appeling because of how relatable she was. “Quinn's story is so human and a lot of the struggles she's gone through a lot of people can emphaize and symphatize with and have gone through or are going through or will go through”, Van Santen said in the podcast interview.

The 'Final Destination 4' star said she spent a great amount of time with her TV sister in order to truly develop that sisterly connection on-screen and for the audience. “Joy and I searched for our relationship and talked about things in the process of it all, her and quinn are probably the closest of all sisters, we're both extremely artistic, we both have that same kind of brain and maybe it will cause us to clash a little bit or maybe it will cause us to get along”, said Van Santen.

The newest CW primetime star also thinks Quinn will have a positive and unique influence on Haley that fans will enjoy.  “I think that it's fun to bring a family member of her's because now you get to see different sides of her that maybe you wouldn't have seen with her and best friend... that it could bring out different colors in her and our relationship”, Van Santen discussed to Gideon. “I think it will be very interesting to see what it not only brings out in my life but in her's as well”.

 You can officially meet Quinn James when the seventh season of One Tree Hill premieres September 14 at 8pm on the CW.
