Peak oil discussion of its obtuse impact on our economy

To follow up on my article about the Pickens Plan, I went in search of more information about peak oil and found that the legislature in Colorado received a briefing by David Bowden on the obtuse impact peak oil will have on our economy. His briefing coincides with the points discussed in the Pickens Plan, so I wanted to provide this synopsis on peak oil discussed in Denver, Colorado on February 15, 2009.

David Bowden is the Executive Director of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas – USA. He gave a presentation at the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado's 5th Annual Sustainable Business Legislative Briefing. He is a renewable energy advocate and discussed our 100% penetration of our need on oil and gas. The two words he stressed are the words “peak” and “oil”.  At the briefing he shared the following statistics:

1. For every three barrels of oil that the world consumes we are finding one. That means that sooner or later demand will exceed supply and price will go up.
2. Our economy in the nation, the state, and the world are profoundly and almost completely dependent on petroleum products (i.e. fertilizer made mostly from natural gas, plastics made from oil, gasoline made from oil, heating oil to heat).
3. We are facing, possibly in the next five to ten years, very considerable supply constraints.

In closing, he urged the legislatures to implement very prompt and urgent conservation measures for fossil fuels. You can hear his briefing at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWnkWP-Qd_4.

    Hello,
If you are just getting started with "Peak Oil" please open you mind as much as possible. I have been studying it for 5 years, and trying to teach it for about 2. I find that the greatest difficulty is getting people over their preconceived ideas. Dan Swanson

    Hi,

With respect of the difficulty Daniel is facing while making people understand peak oil.... i think one way of doing it would be through making live simulation games covering the dynamics and aftermaths of peak oil. The more tangible you make these issues, the more permeability it has in the minds of people. there is one game by name of OLIGARCHY.. try searching for it.
