The media are reporting today that a piece of the famous Egyptian queen’s city has been recovered by its watery location in the harbor of Alexandria.
The news media report that the pylon will be the centerpiece of an underwater museum. It was part of the Temple of Isis and was felled by earthquakes.
That’s all very well, but for a true look at a Temple of Isis a visitor need only go to Philae.
This tiny island is reached only by river taxis from just outside Aswan, and is one of the clear highlights of any Nile River tour. It’s a complete temple complex originally located at Philae, but now on Aglika Island.
One of the treasures of Egypt, it was to be submerged by the building of the Aswan Dam. To save this priceless temple, it was literally dismantled, removed, and completely reconstructed on Aglika Island.
Today it is one of the true highlights of any cruise on the Nile River (which is itself an incredible journey).
There is also a Sound and Light show – a theatrical experience available at several of the temples, but the one at Philae is considered to be the best. In the pitch blackness of the night, we rode across the river to the tiny island and the temple complex. The show was a combination of walking through the gently illuminated ruins and sitting on stone seats listening to the story of the temple and watching the illuminated buildings.
It is a magical experience in a magical place.

That sounds VERY COOL.
Would love to visit Egypt and Greece
I'd love to visit Egypt and many other historical sites in the Middle East, but given the current polical climate I believe I'll just enjoy the pictures.
As an ancient history buff, I think that article and the slideshow were fantastic. A family member just returned from Egypt; I have to pass this one on.
Really lovely photos. Ancient Egypt continues to fascinate people everywhere.
How lovely! It really looks as you say,"a magical experience in a magical place."
