Neala...I'm a little confused that Ty-ty Georgia didn't make the list. This fine example of Southern Gothic Americana is an important factor in Erskine Caldwell's sexy classic " God's little Acre".
Even though Dogpatch isn't real-we can take great comfort in the fact that Ty-ty is.
Dang...

It is a real place! - how cool - Ty Ty is named from the trees that once lined Ty Ty Creek, which runs through the area. According to wikipedia.
Thanks MTF
This list is short on the glamorous but very high on the distinctively American. I love that!
Well, Neala, I have never felt so culturally deprived! I've only been to two of those places! (Sitka and St. Louis) Now, of course, I'm waiting for someone to organize a tour to all of them so I can improve my culture quotient. Thanks for a delightful and insightful story.
I've made it to Fort Collins, St. Louis, and briefly - Huntsville. I did love them all. And need to see the others. Definitely.
