Second Long Island 'Montauk Monster' washes ashore

Montauk Monster Deux

Another creepy "Montauk Monster" carcass recently washed ashore on Long Island, NY.

Last summer, the carcass of some unidentified strange looking creature was found in the sand by beachgoers in the hamlet of Montauk, the eastern most point of the island.

The general consensus was the creature was a fake because only photos of the creature was ever made available.

William Wise, director of Stony Brook University's Living Marine Resources Institute, interpreted the photo along with a colleague and said the creature was the result of "someone who got very creative with latex."

This week, Montauk-Monster.com, "The Official Montauk Monster Web Site," reported a second hairless, bloated body was found by a local couple in nearby Southold, on the island's North Fork.

This time, however, there's a video, purportedly of the second carcass. It's not clear why the video was shot at night with a flash light, a la, Blair Witch Project.

Says Montauk-Monster.com blogger Nicky Papers, "The beast smelled like a mix of low-tide and rotten garbage. I couldn't help but take numerous pictures of it and video clips."

Papers says he's got 70 high-resolution digital images, but -- wouldn't you know it again -- no carcass.

"The (unidentified) couple who tipped me off loaded the carcass into a garbage bag and took it home with them. We've been in correspondence numerous times and have agreed that for the remainder of the week, we'd keep this matter to ourselves. The remains are currently located in Southold in a cooler full of ice," Papers writes.

Papers also speculates that the dead animal may be a result of biological warfare or perhaps carrying the H1N1 swine-flu virus.

So why is he and his friend shown in the video, sans hazmat suits, readily handling the carcass?

Papers says he only wants to get to the bottom of not one, but now two Montauk Monsters. He promises he's not looking for fame.

"It's a tempting offer taking a limousine full of champagne sent by Geraldo to a TV studio, but I'll take this time now to politely decline. Local laboratories and independent research firms, I encourage to contact us as well as we'd like to receive conclusive results as to what the Montauk Monster really is," Papers writes.

With the possibility of being exposed to H1N1 or some biological agent, why would they?

Der.

I'm almost 100% positive it's either a decaying pig or a rotting dog. I've seen dozens of pics of the thing. It's lack of hair and no canine teeth in the upper jaw point to pig. Also the "beak" is clearly the muzzle of the skull. Yep, pretty sure it's a pig. And if it IS a dog, that's the ugliest dog I've ever seen
