When the Oakland Raiders had thefirst overall pick in 2007, it was widely accepted that the choice would be between Brady Quinn and JaMarcus Russell. Ultimately, the Raiders selected Russell with that pick and Quinn went to the Browns with the 22nd pick.

Russell has not worked out as hoped so far for the Raiders. ESPN's Trent Dilfer suggested that the Raiders could now have both of them by trading for Brady Quinn from the Browns on NFL Live. According to Dlifer this move would make sense because it would save the Raiders from drafting a quarterback in 2010, and he said that Quinn would bring a much needed professionalism to the Silver and Black.
This is a move that would not make sense, as Quinn has already been benched in favor of Derrick Anderson, and has numbers that whilst slightly better, are rather comparable to JaMarcus Russell. This does not sound like the type of upgrade the Raiders need.
The Browns are in a similar boat to the Raiders, where they are both 1-4, and have not even shown up for most of their losses. If the Browns have already lost faith in Quinn, who they traded up to select in '06, the Raiders should want no part in him.
It is not hard to picture Quinn as being more professional than Russell, but that is not the only issue. He may even be an upgrade, but the Raiders need more than a minor upgrade at that position, and that is all Quinn would be.
The Raiders need an offensive leader who would come in and inspire his teammates to be better. One who has the 'it' that Rich Gannon had, and in his time with the Cleveland Browns, Quinn has not shown himself to be that leader. The Browns had a worse record than the Raiders last season, and are on pace with the Raiders record wise this season. Despite this, Quinn could not hold off Anderson. It doesn't help Quinn's case that the Browns are the second worst offense in the NFL ahead of the Raiders.
The Raiders would be better off seeing what they have in Bruce Gradkowski or Charlie Frye for the remainder of the season, or even calling it a lost season and seeing if Russell can start to turn it around. They will have a high draft pick again in 2010 (It is the 2011 pick that is property of the New England Patriots because of the Richard Seymour trade.) and there will be several top quarterbacks available.
However, with the leadership at the top, who knows if anyone could be successful in Silver and Black at this point.

I can be successful in silver and black! RAIIIDDDERRRSSSSS.......thats getting old.
I just want a SMART quarterback...that's it! A quarterback who wants to compete, can audible at the line, and is accurate...no more, no less!
Are you saying that I'm worse than two guys the Browns chose to get rid of when I was still on the roster? (Gradkowski and Frye)
Idiot
I would never put anything past Al Davis. This included.
This article is rampant with factual errors, btw.
Ryan, you need to realize that he is reporting from the gut. Facts are over-rated.
I don't think Cleveland gave Brady Quinn a fair shake so far. They have no patience and would not even give him one season at Qb. The Raiders have too much patience and have given Russell too much time especially with the lack of dedication he has shown. I'd take Quinn over Russell any day of the week and would start him asap. Quinn will get better, I don't believe Russell will.
I would take Quinn. I know his numbers are terrible but I can't imagine him missing open receivers at Russell's rate. At least he can throw a screen pass. He can move around in the pocket and run when needed. Russell doesn't feel the pass rush at all.
Do it grande pa davis they talking Ishh about us its time you bust out the bank roll show'em who Started this shyt
DOo ittt. !
Call me crazy, but when N.F.L. teams invest millions of dollars on young quarterbacks, the N.F.L. should devise a plan to nurture these Quarterbacks into a Quarterback Academy. The plan would consist of past N.F.L. Quarterbacks- such as Archie Manning, Doug Williams, Jim Plunkett and Brian Sipe or Ken Anderson. With this concept, these Quarterbacks will learn and grow as athletes and learn how to lead men. How much money in the last 10 years have been forfeited by poor Quarterback play? Let's go through the names: Matt Leinart, Vince Young, Alex Smith, David Carr, Rex Grossman, Brady Quinn, JaMarcus Russell, Dan McGuire, Browning Nagle and Todd Marinovich. In all these players there is a butt-load of talent wasted and money wasted! Please take heed. This is not a laughing matter anymore.
If Gruden returns to the fold, he would require a "Tebow" like QB...I think Quinn might fit that bill.
Sorry purist....the days of the deep ball on a consistent basis are over. The D's in the NFL are too complex, therefore, the O's need to involve shorter pass plays. and "wildcat" like formations...Gruden is an innovator and will succeed
Gradkowski and Frye are good enough to be starting right now. We don't need Quinn (not going to happen anyway). We need to put the right people on the field and get the constant poor performers off!
This is what's killing the morale of the team. Not any effort to try and improve, no shuffle of players in and out to find a way. The team sees Jamarcus phone it in week in and week out yet there he is starting again! Why try when the management isn't trying. Pep talks by Cable are reaching the realm of lunacy when he changes nothing. Leadership starts with the coach and their is NO leadership on this team besides Nnamdi. Cable look in the mirror. You are one of the main reasons we are losing now so do some damn thing! BENCH RUSSELL! BENCH BEY! DO IT NOW!!!
Tom Cable is a sissy nancy that likes to brawl, but when it comes to Al Davis he has no balls. He twists and turns on Als big fat strings, but when it comes to coaching he doesn't do a thing. He'll be fired for Als losing ways, and go to prison for Hanson to pay. I should have benched Russell and Bey he will say as he eats with his cell mates, his day, yesterday.
Got something to say?
