So far in the process of winnowing down the roster, other than Jarrod Cooper's retirement, there has been no real surprises. Drisan James and Aaron Elling joined Grant Irons and Greg Spires on the unemployment line. John Bowie, Oren O'Neal and Drew Carter have been placed on the injured reserve ending their seasons.
Greg Spires signed as a free agent from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but had not distinguished himself on the field of play. Drisan James had yet to see any action, and Grant Irons couldn't get healthy enough to get any time on the field.
Aaron Elling was up and down, but never had a chance of making the team. He was only on the roster to fill in until Sebastian Janikowski was healthy enough to kick again.
Drew Carter and Oren O'Neal were invetable candidates for the injured reserve after being hurt in the opening of the first quarter in Saturday's game. John Bowie's trip to the injured reserve is more questionable, as he has shown nothing in two years, and should have been shown the door.
The biggest question mark is why Michael Waddell was not among those in the first round of cuts. There are still several players other than Waddell on the roster who could be cleared to bring in wide receiver depth. Stay tuned for more.
