The Oakland Raiders reverted to the team that muddled through a three game losing streak. They continually shot themselves in the foot with turnovers. Russell was benched in the second quarter after three turnovers. Bruce Gradkowski moved the team a bit, but could not get the Raiders any points. The Raiders gave up 300 yards rushing, and had four turnovers. There is no way they were going to overcome all that.
Russell was benched near the end of the second quarter.

Raiders defense (continued): After a strip sack by Trevor Scott that cost the Jets 17 yards, they missed a field goal.
Raiders ninth drive: The Raiders could not move the ball and had another three and out.
Raiders defense: The Raiders offered up no defense as the Jets moved right down the field and capped the 7 play 77 yard drive.
Raiders tenth drive: The Raiders drive down to get a first and goal at the six, but still can't punch it in. Darrius Heyward-Bey dropped a well thrown ball in the end zone.

Just like I figured, last week against the Eagles was a hoax.
There is more wrong with the Raiders than Russell. I wasn't that impressed with Bruce. Comes down to the play calling and the O-line. Oh and the WR actually catching the balls. Keep Russell in the game and let him grow. I for one am willing to be patient with him.
At last they finally benched Russell! Now let's give Gradkowski a week to practice with the first unit and give him a chance to start a regular season game. Being down 21 points or whatever it was when he came in isn't a fair chance. I do like the fact that he makes all the swing passes and dump offs to our backs. I have faith that he will improve a lot quicker than Russell was. At least the team is willing to try someone new to change the dynamics of the team and possibly win a few more games. I also like the way he runs the ball. We now have hope and proof that things can actually change on the team and maybe Russell will get the hint and really put his heart and soul (and time)into getting the starting job back. If he does this I still believe he can be the franchise Qb he was meant to be. If he just folds and does business as usual we are better off without him on the field.
The same old story ... another loss and Davis is still in control.
let Russell earn his way back or waive him good by I like the new kid he has heart. I thought he looked better in the pre-season than Russel did and a lot better this afternoon. Let him play until someone proves there a better quarterback. If we keep the change something good happened today after all.
The WR coach should be fired. Week after week of the same old garbage. Put the damn wide receivers in front of the jugs machine till their damn hands bleed. Then make them do it for another 3 hours. Maybe then they'll figure out how to CATCH THE DAMN BALL!!!!!!
And you want to get really mad? Most of those guys made more money today than the rest of us will see in the next 5-10 years. Sleep tight!
as we saw it's not just russell. this team is young. the o-line needs to get help and the wrs ned to gel with russell. i still think when chaz comes back it will help but we still need a vet at wr. we should have got harrison or brought back porter, or holt.
