Oakland gets one hit in 5-0 loss to New York as Yankees sweep four-game series

Just when you think it can't get any worse for the Oakland Athletics offense in 2010, it does.

The A's were swept in a four-game series in New York on Thursday, culminated by a one-hit shutout from Yankees starter C.C. Sabathia and reliever Jonathan Albaladejo. New York's 5-0 win over Oakland left the A's with a 65-68 record as they return home today for a nine-game homestand.

Mark Ellis got Oakland's only hit in the second inning off Sabathia. Otherwise, the A's had three walks and two batters hit by a pitch to leave six men on base overall - but no hits with runners in scoring position, obviously.

Oakland starter Dallas Braden gave up only two hits and one run in his start, but he took the loss to fall to 9-10 on the year with a 3.23 ERA.

The Yankees hit three home runs in this game to account for four of their five runs, and Sabathia struck out five batters in his eight innings of work.

New York outscored the A's 29-11 in the four-game sweep, and the Yankees have now won nine of the ten games between the two teams this year.

Since 2008, New York has simply owned Oakland, winning 21 of 25 games in the last three seasons.

The A's now return to the Coliseum, ten games out of first place, to face the Los Angeles in a three-game set over the Labor Day weekend.
