Black Thought of the Roots gets the party started
As reported yesterday, The Legendary Roots Crew hosted the first Coolhunters Jam at Bowling Alley and concert venue, Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg last night.
The show, a spotlight for artists represented by Coolhunters Management, featured performances by Ursula Rucker, Meyer Hawthorne, Pattern is Movement and others. Chief among them was Bajah + the Dry Eye Crew from Sierra Leone, which rocked the crowd with its mix of hip hop and Afrobeat.
Throughout the evening, The Roots performed songs from their new album, How I Got Over, coming out later this month on Def Jam. In the middle of the show, surprise guest Talib Kweli burst onto the stage brandishing a cake to celebrate the birthday he shares with Roots frontman, Black Thought. While he was there, he stuck around to perform a couple songs, including his hit 'Get By'.
