It's 1 am. You started out having a couple drinks with co-workers. It sounded like fun, until you realized that everyone just wanted to talk about the office. You were just going to go home, until you got that text that some friends got together at bar downtown. "1 round, then home" is what you wrote back. But, when you got to the bar, you knew half the people there. You couldn't just bail without catching up with the crew for a while. Then, it was 11pm. And someone bought a round of shots. It gets foggy from there.
But now, it's late. And besides the nachos someone bought at 6pm, you haven't eaten a thing. You're ravenous. You've got to eat something or you'll be a wreck in the morning. You're craving something meaty and greasy. Preferably something that has had recent direct contact with a flame or a griddle or a super-hot pizza oven. It should come on a stick or wrapped in wonderful, yummy carbs.
The room isn't spinning. It's more of a slow roll. You're distracted. All you can think of is food. Then a man with a spatula reaches out to you and says, "Come with me if you want to live." Or, "Next!" you're not sure which. Doesn't matter. The answer is the same. There's only one thing you want.
So, what is it? Where do you get your favorite snack at "How the hell did it get this late" o' clock? Tacos? Pizza? Shwarma?
This is the beginning of a series. Every week, we'll highlight the best food there is to eat after a night out. Share with the class. Do you get it from a Papaya Stand in the UWS, a Taco Truck on Williamsburg, a chicken shack in Bed-Stuy or the street meat cart in Midtown? Are your favorite Hot Dogs of the dirty water or crisply griddled varieities? What food do you prefer and what place does it best? Chime in in the comments and let us know how you fill your belly in the wee hours.
Today's slideshow is a sample of what's to come. Whet your appetite or refresh your diminished memory and let your fellow readers know what your favorite late night snacks are. Starting next week, there will be Late Night Snack posts up every Wednesday.

My favorites are Joe's Pizza at 6th and Bleecker, Kati Roll and Mamoun's Falafel.
Burger with cheese, all that grease sops up the booze. Old Town Tavern has a great one but the kitchen closes at 11:30 so at 1am you'll have to head to Cosy Soup and Burger or or the Union Sq Coffee Shop, both good choices.
Thanks for the tips! I keep hearing about Kati Rolls, I'll have to give that a try.
gosh i wish i lived in new york... in ohio my late night options are taco bell and... umm.. taco bell
