Tuesday night, Chef Michael Psilakis, owner of Kefi and the Michellin-starred Anthos told stories and prepared a meal for an intimate group at the Astor Center in NoHo. Chef Psilakis, promoting his new book, "How To Roast A Lamb," chose a few favorite recipes and demonstrated them while the audience sipped Greek wines selected from Astor Wines downstairs.
The menu started adventurously with a meal made with salami, apples and octopus. While preparing it, Psilakis talked through the thought process involved in creating a dish that balanced flavors for maximum enjoyment.
The book, "How To Roast A Lamb" combines recipes with stories from the chef's childhood. In the class, he discussed some of these stories and how they shaped his relationship with food.
The Astor Center is a teaching and tasting space from the staff of Astor Wines. It is located around the corner from the retail space and regularly hosts cooking classes, demonstrations like this one, as well as wine and liquor tastings.
