Get your vitmin D - but don't overdo it
Vitamin D, could be a key factor in weight loss suggests a new study. For the study, 38 obese men and women were measured for vitamin D levels then put on a diet for 11 weeks. Results showed that those participants of the study who had higher Vitamin D levels lost an average a quarter of a pound more per vitamin D increment point. They lost more weight and it was discovered that they also had shown higher loss of fat around their abdomens.
But don’t rush out to the pharmacy or health food store just yet. The study has not yet discovered whether taking supplements are as beneficial to the body as getting it through natural means.
Vitamin D is primarily found in oily fish (skins), and fish liver oils so most of us get our recommended dose from sun exposure or fortified foods. Only a small amount of time exposed to the sun without sunscreen is required to build up the nutrient in our bodies. Over-exposure can lead to sun-damage and skin cancers, so be wary of spending time out in the sun without sunscreen.
This study was presented to the Endocrine Society in Washington, DC.

Comments
As there is no danger to taking 10,000iu/daily/D3 even in the presence of adequate sunshine (See ~ Vitamin D and cancer mini-symposium: the risk of additional vitamin D. Vieth R.) getting your 25(OH)D status raised will only help.
"Chronic disease incidence prevention by serum 25(OH)D" shows those above 55ng 137.5nmol/l enjoy least chronic disease incidence and as obesity is an additional risk factor for many of those conditions the sooner steps are taken to correct the inflammation that fat cells cause the better. If this also contributes to the reduction in those fat cells then so much the better.
The only thing that is certain is that remaining vitamin d deficient or insufficient makes matters worse.
