The Art of Sexting

With New Years Eve just around the corner, it's important to brush up on our text messaging skills. Decadent parties with superfluous amounts of champagne and booze lead many women, both single and in relationships, down that slippery slope of late night text conversations with equally inebriated men. Five or six years ago I would have been writing about the "dangers of drunk dialing" but as technology goes, we have a new culprit in town and his last name is SEND.

Unlike drunk dialing however, sex texting, or sexting as I refer to it, can have a much more positive outcome. For starters, being able to review and edit your comments before they come pouring out of your mouth allows sexting to be a more useful tool in seducing your man, but as with anything there are rules.

1. Keep it short and sweet.  Have you ever looked at your guy's porn collection?  Well if you haven't, I promise that you won't find movies that involve deep and intricate story lines.  It will be more like a collection of images that get straight to the point and that is how sexting should be too.  Each text should be able to get your point across in 10 words or less.

2. Say exactly what you want.  Sexting vs. Drunk dialing is like being a radio host vs. a television star.  When you get to hide behind the texting you tend to open up and be more honest with the things you want to say, rather than stuttering over yourself during a phone call.  Don't get sloppy though!  Just because you feel like you can say anything, doesn't mean you can.  That is how drunk dialing so quickly evolves into a disaster.   

3. Be careful with the pics you send.  Sending pictures is not necessary if you are sexting right. There should be plenty of visuals created through your words but if you feel the need to be friskier than usual, only send, what i call, “illusion” pictures.  A picture of just your shoulder with the bra strap falling off, your lips pursed together in a sexy kiss, your lace underwear hanging off the end of your foot or maybe even a little bit of cleavage pushed together. Very obscure things that don’t show too much and most importantly not your face, because you don't know where these pics could accidentally end up!

4. Don't ruin it by drunk dialing.  It's very likely that the sexting conversation is going so well that you just get the urge to call your guy.  Don't do it.  It kills the mystery and everything you just had so much fun with is ruined.  Hopefully the text conversation ends with you and him deciding to meet up at a rendezvous point and making all of those sext message fantasies a reality.  If, for some reason, that can't happen on the same night, don't fret.  The beauty of sexting is imprinting a "sexy you" inside a guy's mind until you CAN meet.
