Sway Machinery play free concert this evening (thanks, Neil)

Sway Machinery

Just back from a a gig in Poland Sway Machinery will perform a free concert on a loading dock as part of the 1st Annual Hudson Square Music and Wine Festival on Spring Street between Hudson Street and Varick Street this evening Tuesday July 7th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Did I mention the gig is free?

Sway Machinery is led by guitarist Jeremiah Lockwood whose main influences are Jacob Konigsberg his Cleveland cantor grandfather and Piedmont blues musician Carolina Slim with whom he played in the New York City subway. Lockwood will be accompanied by Brian Chase, drummer for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Colin Stetson, touring saxophonist for the Arcade Fire, and Stuart Bogie and Jordan McLean, Antibalas' tenor saxophone and trumpet player. Their backgrounds seem incongruous and their sound defies category as evidenced by their performance on WNYC's Soundcheck this past February. Sway Machinery's debut CD is forthcoming from JDub Records in September. Enjoy!

Thanks to Neil Feldman who brought this gig to my attention when he plugged it in his NOB (Not Only Brooklyn) newsletter.
