It was gorgeous weather for a run, at Central Park on Sunday. If anything, it was a little on on the warm side. As expected, there was a great turn out for the 38th running of the NYRR mini 10k, women-only road race. The name "mini 10k" comes from the mini-skirt, which was a popular women's clothing item in 1972, when the race was first conceived. One of the 78 women who ran the very first mini 10k was present at the race, and had the honors of holding tape at the finish line.
According to the NYRR statistics page, there were 4,291 women who participated in the event. There were several elite runners who participated, representing various countries. The winner of the race was Rosa Kosgei of Kenya, clocking an impressive 32:43. Serena Burla finished second, with a time of 33:04. Full results can be found here. Congratulations to all of the finishers of the 2009 mini 10k.
