Anyone whose lived in New York City long enough has speed-dated a Democrat, a mountaineer, a whatever. It’s like a singleton initiation. You aren’t officially inducted into the singles’ hall of shame until you’ve speed-dated. It’s just the way it is. I don’t make the rules.
Usually the speed-dating happens at a bar. And usually the 5-minute time span lasts, oh, forever. Well, there may be a solution to finding your perfect match and you may not even need to leave your apartment. Humiliation, err – I mean success, may virtually be a phone call away.
Skyecandy is a new, free, service from Skype that lets strangers anywhere in the world speed-date via Webcam, living room-to-living room. It’s easy and anonymous and if you feel uncomfortable you can just back away from your computer screen. Easy, huh?
While details are still being hammered out, the site is letting men and women take a shot at cyber-happiness now. An official site launch is expected by July.
So, what do you need to know before you log on? Watch the body language.
He Likes You:
- If he looks you directly in the eye
- If he smiles often
- If he mirrors your actions
- If his eyes open slightly more than usual
He Likes You Not:
- If his arms are crossed it can indicate he is cautious or defensive
- If his fingers tap or fidget he could be nervous
- If his palm rests on his chin it could be seen as critical
- If his hand rubs or touches his nose it could be a sign of doubt
So, now you have an idea of how it’s going… though more importantly to note is whether you show any of the above signs. Are you mirroring actions or cupping your chin? Just something to think about. As long as you don’t reveal your full name, location, and other pertinent information, you may be on the safest date ever.
In fact, you could use Skyecandy as a virtual exercise for the real world, unless of course, your 5-minute locks in a lifetime of bliss. Like I said, it’s good practice.
