Rihanna was one of the most watched people in New York’s tony Hamptons, over the weekend.
The exclusive summer watering hole for New York’s rich and famous usually takes celebrities in stride. But it was agog over the R&B singer because of her beauty, recent notoriety -- and rampant curiosity over who she was seeing.
Former boyfriend Chris Brown viciously beat her in February on the eve of the Grammy awards where both were set to perform. He flew into a rage when she accused him of receiving text messages from a former girlfriend.
The assault left her bloodied and bruise and a horrid photograph of her bruised face leaked onto the Internet. Brown later pleaded guilty to criminal assault charges. Chris, who issued a YouTube apology for his behavior, will appear on CNN’s “Larry King Live” later this week to discuss the episode.
Rumors have been rampant since the attack that the two are spending time together, even though Brown was ordered by a judge to stay at least 50 feet away from her. At the same time, Rihanna, 21, has been seen with other men. Her foray into the Hamptons fueled speculation on both counts.
The ‘Umbrella’ singer was spotted with friends last weekend getting friendly with the doorman at the AXE Lounge, a local Hamptons watering hole.
When Rihanna left the club, she was seen laughing and joking with the mystery hunk before asking for his phone number.
“By the end of the evening Rihanna was smitten with the doorman. But he wasn't just any doorman. The dude is also a model. He is really hot. Rihanna asked for his number on the way out,” reported E! Online, quoting a source.
Rumors are rife that Rihanna is seeing Chris Brown.
Over the weekend, Rihanna was spotted sharing an ice cream cone with music man Steve Stoute at the Montauk Yacht Club.
Stoute, a hip-hop record label executive and brand consultant, works closely with Brown. "She keeps denying that she's seeing Chris again, though no one believes her," a source told the New York Post.
The following night, Rihanna dined with friends at Philippe East Hampton, drawing more attention than even celebrity diners like Rudy Giuliani and former Beatle Paul McCartney.
Rihanna has reportedly upset her mother Monica Fenty by admitting she is still in love with the brutalizer.
“I’m devastated, but what can I do? We love her but can’t stand to see her play Russian roulette with her life,” Monica told a UK tabloid. “Chris has a bizarre power over her. She still loves him and he knows it. In her eyes he is a god. Even after this time, and even after what he did, it’s not diminished.
“It looks like he still can - and is - calling the shots. Chris can charm the birds out of the trees.”
