Gary Whitehill moved to New York City when he was twenty-three years old and did not know one person. He had only been to New York City one other time when he was in the fifth grade.  Whitehill had a vision that he has, through his relentless efforts, made a reality.  Whitehill founded a nonprofit movement, New York Entrepreneur Week (NYEW)  that was formed around the belief that entrepreneurs can change the world.

The use of social media has been a significant reason for the growth NYEW has experienced.  In a recent interview with the New York Nonprofit Business Examiner, Whitehill said, "New York Entrepreneur Week uses Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.  I have found that the majority of people in the entrepreneurial space are utilizing these resources because they are reputable and populated."

Social media is a proven method that nonprofits can use to develop an intimate relationship with their audience.  It is a manner in which to raise awareness and energy around an organizations cause.  Whitehill is an active blogger and has a generous following.  He is interested in expanding more into the blogsphere as the organization grows its blog platform.

Whitehill definitely feels that social media has raised awareness about NYEW.  "When I send out a blog posting, latest news or press release, I see immediate results.  These results vary from more followers, re-tweets, interactions of comments, ticket purchases and media interest."

With New York Entrepreneur Week quickly approaching on April 12-16, 2010, Whitehill is sure to ramp up his efforts on Facebook and Twitter to generate even more interest for the event.  "Social media allows us to spread the mission and message of NYEW globally and gain interest for potential expansion," says, Whitehill.

The New York Entrepreneur Week movement gives people the opportunity to actively engage with the foremost entrepreneurs, investors and deal makers both in New York and from around the world. NYEW is the largest New York movement providing an exclusive educational experience for all entrepreneurs. The are over 100 speakers at NYEW from 40 cities, 15 states and 3 continents. NYEW gives participants the opportunity to connect with and learn from New York's best and brightest entrepreneurs who are relentless, driven and dedicated to improving business and the economy.
