Chad Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch? VH1 reality dating show tells black women go fug yourself; VIDEO

Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch on VH1

The Chad Ochocinco reality show The Ultimate Catch premiered on VH1 last night with a puff of smoke. Video below.

Abiola's Kiss and Tell Report

Today's Kiss and Tell Report.

Chad Ochocinco, Dancing with the Stars contestant and Cincinnati Bengals football star premiered a new VH1 reality dating show last night named The Ultimate Catch. This is not to be confused with Omarosa's TV One reality dating show The Ultimate Merger. Well, that's assuming that Omarosa, even with all of her degrees, savvy and intelligence, could make it onto the Chad Ochocinco show. She might not have the abs or complexion for it.

Within the first 6 minutes it was clear that I am not the target market for The Ultimate Catch with Chad Ochocinco nee Chad Johnson. (My demographic, I suppose, is 30-something African American Caribbean woman who can read.) After the Ochocinco breakdown of why he is The Ultimate Catch, a bevy of "hot chicks" bounced out onto a football field in a puff of smoke wearing predictable football half tops and short-shorts. Ochocinco and his cohort, another handsome black footballer named Bernard Berrian aka B Twice set about doing a mass elimination. They ran the women through asinine athletic drills, such as having them touch their toes, called on this show "men's favorite exercise." Then Ochocinco made his way though the crowd whispering to contestants deemed not up to par that they had been cut.

My immediate thought: Men will love this show.

Word on the street before The Ultimate Catch even aired was that Ochocinco had to be forced by producers to include the two black women that he had in his final seventeen. I reported this a few weeks ago on my Shovio show Abiola on LSD: Love, Sex, Dating, Episode 5 in a humorous conversation about African American men and interracial love with the lovely eFlirt Expert, Laurie Davis. It is low hanging fruit at this point for comedians to make jokes about black male athletes' preferences for white women and disdain for black women. The joke stops when this rejection and heralding of ideal womanhood trickles throughout communities with delightful sprinkles of self hate, lack of self worth and low self esteem.

Here's the deal: Chad Ochocinco's The Ultimate Catch is a sexist show that is not woman-friendly on any level. We all know and accept that reality shows are about entertainment and not about love, don't we? If you haven't woken up to this fact yet the recent shenanigans and breakups from ABC's The Bachelor franchise should have clued you in.

Obviously as a media personality I am in favor of entertainment. As a Bravo Real Housewives fanatic and VH1 Tough Love alum I am also not panning the stupidity of "reality" shows. Nor I am not anti interracial relationships. People should love whomever they want.  I have received hate mail for even allowing a cutie pie white guy to kiss me on camera. My point is that I don't have a high horse to step down from .She galloped away a long time ago.

Ochocinco is tall, handsome athletic and chocolate, everything that I might enjoy in man candy and mindless candy TV viewing. However, I was immediately turned off because judging from the percentage of African American women in the "game," enjoying Ochocinco would be only a one-way fantasy for me- the kind I am not in to. The show seemed as sexy to me as a Klan rally or a date with John Mayer's racist penis.

When one of my friends of a different race sent a text innocently commenting out of the blue, "I didn't know that Chad Ochocinco was Mexican. Maybe that's why he doesn't like black women," I knew it was on.

There's a contest right now on the front page of VH1 asking, "Who is sexier Terrell Owens or Chad Ochocinco?" Although I obviously find them both physically beautiful men my "ultimate" answer is who cares? I don't have a dog in this fight.

If you must find your reality television football fix from one of these shows I say go for The T.O. Show. Yes, there is a strangely irrational and "angry black woman" character named Mo (I've only seen one episode so she may not always be so nasty) but at least it doesn't feel so overwhelmingly woman-hating. Or you can turn off the TV and meet me at the beach with my gorgeous rainbow of brilliant women friends.

Question: Are Steve Harvey and company taking a break from telling single black women to 'just settle already' to write a love advice book addressed to Chad Ochocinco and company?

Video: Chad Ochocinco and B Twice give dating advice on VH1 reality show The Ultimate Catch.

What do you think?

I'm a white woman who loves black men. I think Chad is beautiful. However, I do not date black men who put down their own race to justify there reason(s)for dating me, unless he's rich. This guy is a poster child for low self-esteem. But, whith his income, who cares!!!!

Hey April, I agree with you. I hate to say it, but a lot of black men, especially darkskinned black men, really do hate themselves. Self hatred is a mutha. They no longer see dark skinned black women as beautiful. I can't totally blame them for there way of thinking. They have women of all races coming after them. How often do you see black women on magazines or commercials? The ones that you do see are mixed or not really dark. Its sad and it hurts to see and hear black men say that about me. To my beautiful sistahs, keep moving on.

It is really sad. Its like an all out assault on black women right now....but still we will rise. Black man we were the ones beside you in the cotton fields while Master had his way with us and you could do nothing. We were the ones right beside you when you couldn't drink from the "whites only" fountain. We endured and that's where we get our strength. Black women should teach their young boys to appreciate us so they do not grow up to be like this.

This guy is only a football player. He catches a football and runs with the football in his hand hoping to score a touchdown.Thats it. Athletes make a lot of money but they have no voice. They can't talk about real issues like racism, sexism, police brutality in the black community etc... These guys are slaves with money and they're too wrapped up to see it or to even care. These people are not important. He can't move mountains or walk on water. Please!!!

Blech. I didn't even know this guy existed until I saw him on 'Dancing With the Stars.' He struck me as just another cliche-spouting sports dude who was so lame, he wasn't even worth fantasizing about. I'm so glad he's going to get even richer now doing this appalling show.

Now that Chad and Jake (both on DWTS this season) have shown their true dick-headedness, I wonder who'll be next to fall from grace? Not Evan Lysacek, I hope!

I (unfortunately) had the opportunity to catch this show last night. I actually liked Chad up until this point, I thought he was a cool, down-to-earth athlete who sincerely loved his fans. BUT now he goes and does THIS. When will guys realize that they lose tons of cool points with REAL, quality women after doing these ridiculous shows?

I knew the blog about interracial dating and Ocho Cinco were coming. I was just waiting to see how long it would take. The show looks like something out of Drake's "Best I Ever Had" video with booties and breasts bouncing everywhere, except Drake used a basketball court instead of a football field. I can't go so far as to call the show sexist though because the women know what they're getting into. Sexism to me is more when a woman is trying to get ahead but being stopped by a man. These women are knowingly making a foll of themselves adn don't care. I can't get into this show. I'm completely bored with VH1 reality dating shows. It should've stopped after "I Love New York."

Oftentimes we get fed up and don't want you either, but we stand by you because we love you. Real Love..When you hurt we hurt. When you cry we cry. When society beat you down we fight for you. I pray that our men would relly take the time to see what is really going on. Black men open your eyes, please. Open your eyes..We need you. And you need us. Peace and Love

THATS WAS REALLY TOUCHING TO READ. I AM A BLACK MAN AND I TOO HAVE MADE THE COMMENT ABOUT NOT DATING BLACK WOMEN. I LOVE MY CULTURE AND WE ARE A STRONG PEOPLE AND BLACK WOMEN ARE SOME OF THE STRONGEST WOMEN ON THE EARTH, AND BECAUSE OF THIS POST 1968 GENERATIONAL CURSE, THEIR STRENGTH HAS BECAME A CONFLICT WITH THE NEW POST 70'S BLACK MAN. I KNOW CHAD PERSONALLY, AND HE IS A GOOD GUY. THE PROBLEM IS THE PRODUCERS OF ALL THESE REALITY SHOWS BECAUSE THEY SET THE TONE. ITS JUST ENTERTAINMENT!!! TO CONTINUE ON THE REAL REPLY, I DO BELIEVE WE MUST TEACH OUR CHILDREN THE BEAUTY OF OUR WOMEN AND TO NEVER LET ANYONE OUTSIDE OUR RACE HEAR US TALKING BAD ABOUT OUR QUEENS. NOTE TO OUR QUEENS. TRY VERY HARD TO BE SUBMISSIVE TO YOUR KINGS AND YOU WILL SEE THEM ALL COME BACK HOME. OTHER CULTURES NO MATTER WHITE, ASIAN, MIDDLE EASTERN, JEWISH, ETC... ALL ARE SUBMISSIVE TO THEIR HUSBANDS. JUST SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT. P.S. YOUR STILL STRONG IF YOU COME SECOND TO THE STRONGEST MEN IN THE WORLD!!!!!

You hit on alot of key points in this article. I was really surprised to see that he only kept 2 black girls out of the 85 girls he had to choose from. I heard about the selection before the show aired. I honestly thought it had something to do with the producers having a say in who actually made it on the show. But it seems like it was really Chad's personal seletion. But I guess you can't help who you're attracted to right? My question is are black men realy attracted to other races? Or are they taking the easy way out because black women are stereotyped to be sassy, have an attitude, too independent....etc.

Chad “Ochocinco” is a big zero in my book. I’m glad that I don’t watch football or any other sport anymore. No offense to interracial dating or marrying and loving who you love, but why are black men so afraid to date people that look like them. He’s another Latrell Spencer from White Chicks.

Wonderful article! It really is getting ridiculous that so many black men (rich or poor, famous or not) purposely choose to date outside of their race.

I find all women beautiful, just as I find all men beautiful. I date outside of my race (I'm black) but would never dream of turning down a wonderful man because he's black! Whaaat? How can you discriminate against your own beauty? As Marvin Gaye would ask, "What's Goin On?" Keep it up Abiola, great stuff!

As an African American Man, I found last nights spectacle offensive. There is an unfortunate trend developing in the media with regards to black athelets and women of all ethinicities. It seems, these shows are playing black, white, hispanic, and women of other ethnicities against one another to support stereotypical views of women as fembots accentuating the racial stereotypes that each group bring to the show. However, there is no understanding of the impact these show's have on young men. It's discouraging to consider what impact this show will have on today's generation of young men But, it was refreshing to see how he found the one tall athletic sister attractive and impressive. Maybe the show's producer will find a way to make the few sister's on the show stick around and impact his choice.

Sorry, I forgot one point I wanted to make about this show. I think we should be happy as hell that there are less sistas on the show. While focusing on the number of white and Latina women Ocho Cinco picked, we should be relieved that less black women were willing to make an arse out of themselves to date one guy and still had a little bit of integrity left. Dating people one-on-one is fine, but jumping through tires and doing booty dances is something I don't want to see women (specifically black women) doing so I hope he eliminates all the black women so I don't have to see them do anything too ridiculous. Everybody has a right to their type. If he likes white women, so be it. If he likes Latina women, so be it. But the last thing I am is upset that he doesn't like women who look like me. Thank goodness!

To JC: Please speak for yourself. This is one former dark chocolate (think blue black) loving sistah who has had ENOUGH! Though I've never been rejected for a white woman (as far as I know) I'm just tired of the superficiality of black men. Its become an unapologetic SLAP IN THE FACE. In the last few months I've gone out on dates with a Bolivian, Brazilian and an Indian. All because of watching the antics of black men. I'm done. PERIOD.

I came up in an era of black is beautiful.

So beautiful that I proudly married a black woman. If any of my interracial sons showed the disdain and disregard black athletes and rappers seem to have for black women they would have a fight with me!

Black women, know that you are beautiful. As are white women and women period. The lens of these guys is faulty and sad.

I just came across this post article by accident. OK, ladies and gents, I have a huge revealing secret to tell you. Hope you are sitting down; IT'S A TELEVISION SHOW, AKA, FAKE! I have another secret to let you in on, every show on television does not have to appeal to women; black or otherwise. Ladies, fellas, this is real easy; you don't like the show, don't watch it, change to channel. Shhesh! Women, and fem gays, are sooo annoying. Personally, I'm just happy to see another Chocolate brother face on television.

@Ellea, no offense but you and I were not beside any black man in any cotton fields during Slavery or were we there during segregation. If you check a little history you'll also find that many black women especially here in NOLA and other parts of the USA were in consensual relationships with white males. Maybe if we can place our history in the context that it is... History, we can possibly go forward in our futures. You're right "Black women should teach their young boys to appreciate us so they do not grow up to be like this." Don't forget to teach your daughters the same things so they will value who they are and see their true worth as human beings. Everyone has their preferences and I could care less who these men date, but Black women need to stop enriching these types of men who don't even value them nor see them as datable. Pull the plug from giving them your money it's just that simple! Forget loyalty, they're not loyal to you and what are any of you getting out of the deal?

I see a trend with Black men just dating white women and Hispanic women. Actually in my area (Tampa Bay area), I see more Black men dating white women. I find this sad. I have several close female black friends who are educated, self sufficient and doing it on their own but find it very difficult to date within their race. They want to date within their race but can’t seem to find a good black man, and now are dating white men. As a Hispanic woman, I have dated within my race and outside my race. I am open to both. But to blatantly turn your check and not date your race, to me is a shame. You should love who you are, and the people who encompass your culture and heritage. Not shun away from it. Shame on your Ocho Cinco…someone must of burnt you in the past or the money has gotten to your head.

There's a lot of hating going on here. So what if he chose more white girls then black girls? There happen to be 6 white girls for every black girl in this country, so why should this be a surprise? How about instead of being angry at black men, try dating some white guys? Or Hispanic guys? Or Asian guys? (They seemed to get left out a lot.) Or how about just worrying about what someone is like on the inside instead of the color of their skin?

How about increasing the number of black men (therefore reducing the majority of white further) by dating and marrying men from Africa or the Caribbean? Is it too much beneath black women to date black men from other countries? Would some status be lost?

Living in Miami I was seen Chad out in clubs, strip clubs and restaurants numerous times and know women he has "dated" and they are always Latino or African American NEVER white. The show is bracket style...a game to make these chicks look stupid. He even has a prize they are competing for first, his love second. If these chicks are dumb enough to humiliate themselves that's on the chicks. None of them will be famous or have a chance of being with him past this show.

Come on everyone, you all should be use to the fact that black guys get rich and date outside thier race, because thier still able to do whatever they want; and get away with it. Not to mention, a survey was quitely submitted asked these women if Chad wasn't rich had they still auditioned for the show; and of course; their answer was NO! In addition to that, many stated they haven't even dated outside thier race; or had the desire. (so what that tell you)$$$$$. However, with a sister it's not happening. Example: Shaq and Micheal J. just to name a few. In fact, we all know if Chad or Terrell even was just an ordinary black guy with a average playing job, half of these gold diggers wouldn't even be on the show! At any rate, as the saying goes, money will change anyones' mind!

What makes us black women not good for him enough? he said he " its his prefference" to ONLY DATE latin and white women, Why? I thought when you have a prefference its things like. finding someone who's going to love you for being who you are and nothing else. Finding someone who's going to except your flaws and deal with it. Not skin color. period. Love doesn't have a shade of color or prefference, its an emotion. That dude really should be ashame of hisself. The woman of his dreams might have been there, but he let her go because she was black and so now he'll never know. Black women was good enough for him to screw but not good enough to be called his. I think hes very cold blooded for even having black women on his show. And for the show to have to make him pick the few black women that he did pick is beyond me. OK, stop it. I've had enough of this! He doesn't "prefer" black women, so what! I'm a black woman, and honestly, I don't really give a fuck and neither should we. I mean, a lot of you claim you don't care, but you're still crying about it and how BLACK men always go for non black women, when that's not entirely true! And that's the problem. If you can't find a good black guy, what's wrong with a white or hispanic, or asian guy, ect? Black men seem to be doing fine dating outside the race, why can't we? Black women: Stop complaining about not being able to find a good BLACK man, and go outside the box for once. I'm not trying to put down the black men out there, but I'm going to marry a GOOD man: successful, handsome, someone I can trust, he can trust me, and we're totally in love, regardless if he's black, brown, white, yellow, or whatever! People who ONLY stick inside their race, or just date specific races or types of people, you know, it's their preference, but in my opinion, they're just really ignorant, sheltered, and close minded people. Taste the rainbow friends!
