Bloomberg is a petulant rich kid

Bloomberg acts like a petulant child, a petulant rich kid. Like Giuliani, he has a thin skin when asked legitimate questions he doesn’t like. Rudy is a bully, Bloomberg is simply a nasty little rich kid. Both are control freaks.

Last month he yelled at a guy in a wheelchair and the most recent snit was when New York Observer reporter Azi Paybarah asked whether the improving economy cancelled out his reason for running for another term, he called him a “disgrace.”

The question was a very legitimate one and he should have answered it. The fiscal crisis was the main reason he wanted to overturn term limits. He wanted to ride to New York's fiscal rescue. Now that the economy might be turning the corner as he claims, his reasoning falls flat.

New York may be an international financial market but it has always been run by New Yorkers, for good or ill. Now it is being run by a rich transplant, intent on reinventing  New York in his rich image. It’s all about business.  He doesn’t care about destroying the fabric of New York as long as he can remake it a rich man’s paradise.

Local political analysts say it will be very hard to defeat him due to his massive campaign war chest. Already, Anthony Wiener has dropped out. So far, Bloomberg’s only big competition is City Comptroller Bill Thompson.

There is a dark horse. That dark horse is Tony Avella, a city councilman from Queens who is no fan of mayor Mike. He has even taken his council colleagues to task for kowtowing to Bloomberg’s whims. He is most definitely against the out of control development under Bloomberg’s terms. Frankly, I never heard of him until I picked up a copy of WG, Williamsburg Greenpoint News +Arts. 

“Mayor Who?” paints a portrait of a guy who really does fight for the little guy against powerful interests.  Analysts write him off due to the money issue.  According to the article he has only raised around $239,000 so far and has little name recognition. But Avella is undeterred. He has vowed to take his campaign to the people and talk “anywhere there’s more than two people.” He believes that once he gets his message out his profile will be raised.

Avella might have a tough row to hoe against Thompson. Although Thompson’s money numbers aren’t great, he does have the name recognition and some heavy political backing.

As for Bloomberg, he could very well have City Council Speaker Christine “Quisling” Quinn in his corner. She said she hasn’t decided whether she will back a democratic candidate, leaving the door open for an endorsement of Bloomberg. She’s been in Bloomberg’s pocket for some time and supported his bid to overturn term limits despite her promise to oppose it. She’s also been a big booster of issues that the mayor has brought to the council.

Some suggest that there have been backroom deals between Mike the Weasel and The Quisling.

Avella told the Daily News, "She's been rolling over for Mike Bloomberg on almost every sort of issue that he's brought to the forefront in the City Council. She does what she's told by Mike Bloomberg - I think it's unfortunate that she's turned her back on the Democratic party."

Quinn hasn't so much turned her back on the Democratic party as much as she has on the people of New York.
