Once again the Biggest Loser contestants were challenged to complete a marathon with 60 days notice. The final 4 left the ranch and went home to eat and exercise on their own. Bob and Jillian called and told them they had 60 days to train for a marathon starting in the hills outside of Los Angeles and ending on the beach. It was on the roads, on trails and finally finishing on the same stretch of beach that they ran for their first mile. Allison told them that if they finished the race they could pay it forward - they would get $10,000 to donate to the charity of their choice (sponsored by Biggest Loser protein shakes).
They were all in good spirits as they started off. Amanda and Rudy take the early lead with Danny and Liz running together just behind them. Tara Costa, from last season, jumped on the course to surprise them. Tara ran the NYC Marathon this past fall in 4:23. Dena met Rudy and ran with him for a bit. Amanda’s best friend joins her as she starts worrying about her ability to finish the race. Tara writes on her blog that she told Amanda she would stick with her to the end although the camera team asked her to drop out of the picture every once in a while so that they could focus on Amanda. Tara also comments that Liz 'is a force to be reckoned with'.
At mile 15 Danny has a horrible pain in his hip, legs, and knees and thinks about quitting. Bob joins Rudy at mile 25 to finish the race. When you look at how far these people have come this endeavor is pretty impressive. Rudy finishes in 5:12. Helen and Mike from last season are cheering him on at the finish. Bob hooks up with Amanda before the finish cheering her on to a 5:28. Danny and Liz support each other all the way to the finish line. Rudy and Danny lost enough to keep them in the game, now it is up to America to vote for either Liz or Amanda to stay in the running for $250,000.
So what can we learn from these contestants? If you put your mind to it you can do ANYTHING! They overcame weight, eating issues, emotional issues and physical limitations. What is holding you back from trying a triathlon or doing that next longer race or getting a little faster. You can do it. Reach out and find the support network - there is no need to do it alone. Find a coach or a group to train with and you'll find yourself reaching new levels.
It won't be long before the Biggest Loser will be promoting triathlons as the big final challenge. The sport is growing and with good reason - it is FUN, it is CHALLENGING, it keeps you HEALTHY, you can MOTIVATE others, and you can hang with really COOL PEOPLE! Get in the game.
