Often times it's hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle with our busy lives. I sat down with Brook Alpert a registered dietitian and owner of B-Nutritious to get some inside tips on how to stay healthy!
What makes B-Nutritious standout against all the others?
B Nutritious is different because of our individualized approach with each client. No two people are alike, so we make sure that each diet plan we map out is customized for our client. We also believe in small changes with a big impact which makes any nutritional goal seem within reach for our clients.
What is the one thing that people enjoy most about your services?
That we “get it”. We understand how difficult it is to make the changes necessary to reach your nutritional goals so we are with our clients every step of the way to make it as easy as possible for them. Also- our vast restaurant and food knowledge definitely makes us a New Yorkers best friend as many of our clients eat out on a regular basis- so knowing the restaurant scene and having access to menus again allows us to be part of our clients life every step of the way!

Do you have an influx of clients during the holiday season, if so what is their major concern?
New Years always brings in a lot of clients. Everyone’s resolution tends to be about health and/or weight and that’s where we come in. The major concern is always weight loss!
What’s your number one tip when battling the holiday party?!
Do not go hungry! Arriving at a holiday party hungry is the best way to sabotage any idea of making smart decisions. Also- always keep one hand full with a low calorie beverage which will give you less chances at devouring the cheese plate!
Do you have any suggestions when trying to make healthy substitutions during the holidays?
Its important not to deprive yourself as that tends to cause some binging later on. Allow yourself a small portion of your favorite side dish or dessert but make sure you filled up on the good stuff as well.
When a client has a “slip up” what is the best advice that you can give them?
Everyone has slip-ups. The best way to fix it is to make a better choice for your next meal or snack. If you overdid it on dinner, make sure breakfast the next morning is super healthy- filled with lean protein and high fiber and you’ll be right back on track.
What dish do you look forward to the most during the holiday season?
I am an equal opportunity eater as I love it all. I tend to really enjoy small passed appetizers but they aren’t so figure friendly! So I allow myself a few of them and load up on veggies the
rest of the night!
What is the craziest New Year’s resolution you might have heard from a client?
Mainly just unrealistic goals. For example, someone who really doesn’t workout much saying that they are resolving to go to the gym 5 times a week. Or even just a large weight loss in a small period of time. Both just set you up to fail!
Is there one rule that one should always follow when trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle? Is this the rule you live by?
The key word there is lifestyle instead of a diet. Every meal and every snack is an opportunity to make a better choice- if you can view eating this way then you will automatically be heading in the right direction! I never beat myself up over a poor choice, I just know that I will make a better choice next time and that’s what I hope all my clients are able to do for the rest of their lives!
