Saturday November 14, 2009 and Sunday Nov. 15th, Sacramento marks World Diabetes Day with events at the State Capitol on Saturday at 5:30 pm and at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm. The two events target healthy vision and diabetes awareness. For further information on World Diabetes Day, visit the World Diabetes Day website. For further information on the Vision Health Fair on Sunday, visit the Vision Health website. Or see "Check it Out" in today's Sacramento Bee, "An eye on diabetes, vision health."

Saturday evening the State Capitol will be lit up in blue. At the event, participatns will form a human circle around the building to raise awareness of diabetes, which costs California nearly $25 billion in health care each year.

On Sunday, the event is a vision health fair, sponsored by Prevent Blindness Northern California. At the event, doctors will dispense vision health advice and offer free vision screening.
