In addition to eating nutritiously, exercise is an important tool to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Ideally, one should engage in a cardiovascular workout 3-5 times per week, for periods of 30-60 minutes. Strengthening programs (such as weight training and Pilates) should be performed 3-5 times per week as well. Getting to the gym and going for a jog outside during the winter is a challenge, so here are two indoor exercise techniques:
1. Comcast’s On Demand offers multiple workouts including; Cardio, Pilates, Jillian Michaels, Yoga, 10 minute work outs, etc. Simply hit your On Demand button, click on Sports and Fitness, click on Exercise TV and find your match!
2. For a simple cardio workout all you need is an open space, a pair of sneakers, and motivating music. For a 30 minute work out set up a play list of 7-10 songs.
Songs 1-2: Begin by jogging in place.
Song 3: Stretch your lower and upper body.
Song 4: Go back into a jog in place.
Song 5: Pick it up with jumping-jacks, alternating slow/fast paced.
Song 6: Back to jogging in place.
Song 7: Jump rope (you don’t actually need a rope).
Song 8: Perform 20 squats, 15 push ups, and then hold the plank position for the remainder of the song to work the abs.
Song 9: Cool down with a slow jog in place.
Song 10: Stretch your lower and upper body.
