Forget appearances -- the Nuggets can't afford to play
without Anthony. AP
I was only trying to forget my troubles on Sportscenter for a while. Then the ticker bowled me over like I was taking a charge from foul-prone Nuggets center, Nene.
Carmelo Anthony suspended one game
According to ESPN.com, Anthony will head back to Denver instead of joining the Nuggets in their battle against the Iverson-less Detroit Pistons Tuesday night in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Nuggets VP of player personnel Rex Chapman spoke about the matter Monday night: "There is a code of conduct that we take very seriously, especially from a leader and co-captain. Carmelo knows this and regrets what happened. He is a very competitive person and made a poor decision in the heat of the moment. We look forward to having him back on Thursday and will have no further comment at this time."
Apparently, Anthony refused to leave the game in the third quarter, when coach George Karl tried to take him out (I'm scrolling through the DVR now, gimme a minute - UPDATE - I just watched the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Pacers and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Melo played the entire third quarter and began to heat up as he scored 7 points in the final 1:40 of the period). According to ESPN, Nuggets spokesman Eric Sebastian claims it has nothing to do with the technical Anthony received midway through the fourth quarter.
Think I'll put down this US Weekly and stay tuned for the next juicy tidbit from the Denver sports scene. It's its own reality show now.

Now this is a head-scratcher. Guy wants to win and stay on the floor. Sounds like it's something you have a clear-the-air meeting about, followed by an apology to the team. But a one-game suspension for a winnable road game? I think not.
