Pelvic organ prolapse is a condition that is sometimes treated with surgery. A device is implanted to help support the bladder. Women that have had severe symptoms including painful sexual intercourse and incontinence will discuss options with their doctor. All surgeries are risky and should be well considered before undertaking. A woman must weigh out all the options. Preventing pelvic organ prolapse should be on all women’s minds as they age, especially if they have had multiple pregnancies and deliveries. Doing kegal exercises and avoiding heavy lifting are some of the ways to help prevent this condition.
Throughout pregnancy the bladder can cause an expectant mother to run to the bathroom quite frequently. As pregnancy continues and the uterus becomes larger a pregnant mother will have to empty her bladder more often. The pressure and weight of the baby will cause that urgency to increase. During childbirth there is pressure and strain on all the abdominal organs and sometimes following the birth of a child, especially multiple births, a mother can be left with damage to her organs. Later on, a woman can be diagnosed with pelvic organ prolapse due to childbirth.
Taking care of our bodies is important to keeping well and healthy for our families. A woman needs to make her health a priority and should be getting well checkups to make sure nothing is wrong with hidden symptoms.
