In April, Savor Seattle Food Tours launched its newest line-up in culinary foodie adventures - the Coffee Bites & Sights Tour. Billed as "not the same old grind," the newest coffee tour to hit the Seattle food scene will focus on the many culinary uses of coffee and coffee inspired flavors, in addition to discussing the prominent role the bean has played in Seattle history as well as in Seattle pop-culture.
The 2.5 hour walking tour is ideal for individuals who love the smell of coffee in the morning and are interested in learning more about Seattle coffee culture, but simply can't consume the quanitity of black coffee offered by local roasters at coffee cuppings.
Angela Shen, owner and founder of Savor Seattle, wanted to share with locals and visitors to Seattle alike just how deep coffee culture has permeated the Seattle food scene. "There's definitely more to our love affair with coffee than just the beverage, although here in Seattle we have roasters that are certainly taking that concept to a new height," says Shen as she sips on her favorite caffeinated drink, a macchiato.
"That's what I wanted to highlight with the Coffee Bites & Sights Tours. There are plenty of options out there for the individual who wants to compare different types of roasts or origins of beans, but until now nothing has explored the influence that coffee has had on pop-culture and the culinary scene. While we do offer several different beverages on the tour, we also run the gamut when it comes to food - from the traditional coffee and chocolate pairings to the more innovative creation of espresso smoked sea-salt and even using coffee grounds as a rub for cheese!"
In addition to the coffee infused food and drink, the Coffee Bites & Sights Tour also features:
- a half-pound of freshly roasted coffee beans
- presentation of latte art
- demonstration of the newest Clover small batch coffee machine
- the real story behind the Starbucks enterprise
The tour culminates with a ride from downtown Seattle to the Seattle Center on the monorail, before taking an elevator up to the top of the Space Needle for a tasting of mocha-braised short ribs, all while enjoying the view from the rotating Sky City restaurant. On a clear day, nothing is more beautiful than looking out over Elliot bay as the sun lights up the Olympic mountains to the east and the skyline of Seattle to the south. And, since you're fully caffienated, there's no rush to take the elevator back down to earth, allowing you to soak in the sights from the observation deck 520 feet above ground for as long as you wish.
