Bell Rock dominates the landscape near Sedona.
The town of Sedona, Arizona, is a bit like a kaleidoscope in that your view of the place may very well depend on your perspective. It can be a New Age town full of spiritual seekers, an outdoor mecca for hiking, biking and climbing enthusiasts, an upscale retirement community, or a typical tourist stop filled with kitschy shops and overpriced restaurants. Truthfully, Sedona is all of these things. But regardless of how you view the city, it is undeniably home to one of the most extraordinary landscapes in North America.
Sedona is in the Coconino National Forest, and the palette of green trees that surrounds the city is dotted with stunning red rock buttes. Towering over the landscape, these bluffs morph into different shades of red as the day changes from dawn to mid-afternoon to sunset. The scenery can be viewed up close, as countless trailheads and biking trails lead visitors to the base of many of these buttes, as well as to dramatic overlooks.
Here is a slideshow that gives you a glimpse into some of the beauty of Sedona.
