Those who enjoy the In Death series of books that Nora Roberts writes under her J.D. Robb pseudonym now have the opportunity to share their enthusiasm for these works in a new In Death Reading Challenge. Christine from the blog The Happily Ever After ... will host the challenge throughout 2010.
Christine challenges everyone to read one In Death book per month and post either a review or commentary about it on their blogs with a backlink to Christine's original challenge. Readers lacking their own blogs may submit their posts to Christine for inclusion on The Happily Ever After. Fuller details of the challenge are available on that site.
In her original post on November 8, 2009 Christine explained that the recent release of Kindred in Death provided the impetus for her issuing the challenge:
Kindred In Death is the 35th(!) installment in the well loved and very successful In Death series by romance author Nora Roberts who writes this series under the J.D. Robb pen name. The In Death series is futuristic romantic suspense series that consistently delivers an interesting, quality murder mystery; plenty of danger, intrigue and action; futuristic forensic methodology; and most of all, a riveting look into the professional and personal life of NYPSD detective Eve Dallas and her enigmatic lover and eventual husband, Roarke, along with a colorful cast of secondary characters."
In a December 11 update to her post, Christine revealed that the In Death Reading Challenge had already spurred responses from at least two other bloggers. Orannia, who had read most of the series previously, posted her review of Promises In Death on her blog, Walkabout. Lori, who had just begin reading the In Death books, reviewed the first three series titles – Naked In Death, Glory In Death and Immortal In Death – on I Just Finished Reading ....
The In Death Reading Challenge gives the legion of J.D. Robb fans a chance to share their reviews and comments on the individual works in this series. This exchange should also stimulate many others to begin reading these books. The article Nora Roberts 101: Fact sheet on the J.D. Robb In Death series, with its chronological list of all the series titles and identification of chief characters, may provide a starting point for those new to the In Death series.
