Read Always & Shine auction to be held at Inn BoonsBoro

Boonsboro, Maryland’s historic Inn BoonsBoro will be the site of an Oct. 22, 2011 “Read Always & Shine” auction. The invitation-only event will benefit both the Washington County (MD) Free Library Rebuild fund and ProLiteracy Worldwide, LLC.

A silent auction of artwork by local artists, including Jeff Kollins, Tony and Jonna Mendez, Michael Douglas Jones, Michael Hauver, David Zimmerman, Ralph Basford, Benita Keller, Frank Herrera, R. Benjamin Jones, Mark Muse and Walter Bartman, will precede a live auction of over sixty items from Nora Roberts’ own jewelry collection. Online bidding will accompany the live event.

Nora Roberts has long demonstrated her interest in literacy efforts both personally and through her Nora Roberts Foundation. ProLiteracy Worldwide conducts programs on behalf of adult literacy on international, national and local levels. The Washington County Free Library Rebuild fund aims to nearly double the size of the Hagerstown, Md. main library.

“For an author, libraries and literacy go hand in hand,” commented Roberts in a press release issued earlier this week. “As a lifelong reader myself, I cannot imagine not being able to pick up a book and dive into a story. And when I started out, the library was the source of all my research. I would use the reference sections – even in the children’s room – when I brought my sons to the library. I hope that the Read Always & Shine event will bring these two compelling efforts to greater public attention.”

The Read Always & Shine auction's name reflects the title of Roberts’ newest novel, The Next Aways (Berkley Trade). This first book in her Inn BoonsBoro trilogy will be released in the U.S. on Nov. 1, 2011. Among the items up for bid at the October 22 event be a painting based on the cover of this book.
